AERO.10 Boot Failure Troubleshooting

Overview

If your AERO.10 does not successfully complete its boot sequence, the issue may be related to the CPU board not powering on.

This document provides a step-by-step procedure to determine whether the CPU board is powering on and, if necessary, manually command the CPU board to power on.

Important: This procedure requires opening the AERO.10 chassis and working near electrical connections. Follow appropriate safety procedures when working with equipment connected to AC power.


Symptoms

This procedure applies when:

  • The AERO.10 does not successfully complete its boot sequence.

  • The unit appears to power on but does not finish booting.

  • The CPU board may not be powering on.


Step 1 — Check the CPU Board LEDs

  1. Remove the cover from the AERO.10.

  2. Apply AC power to the unit.

  3. Locate the CPU board.

  4. Check the two LEDs on the CPU board.

There are two possible conditions:

Both LEDs are illuminated

If both LEDs are illuminated, the CPU board is powering up.

Proceed to Step 4 — Additional Troubleshooting.

Only one LED is illuminated

If only one LED is illuminated, continue with Step 2 — Manually Power On the CPU Board.


Step 2 — Disconnect the CPU Board Wire Harness

The CPU board has an orange, green, and purple wire harness connected to it.

  1. Locate the orange, green, and purple wire harness on the CPU board.

  2. Carefully unplug the harness from the CPU board.

Note: The connector may be secured with RTV. Carefully cut or remove the RTV as necessary to allow the connector to be removed.


Step 3 — Manually Power On the CPU Board

After disconnecting the wire harness:

  1. Apply AC power to the AERO.10.

  2. Using a small metal object, such as a screwdriver, briefly short the two specified pins together.

  3. These are the two pins where the orange and green wires were located when the harness was installed.

  4. Observe the two LEDs on the CPU board.

The purpose of this procedure is to manually command the CPU board to power on, similar to pressing the power button on a PC.

If both LEDs illuminate

If both LEDs illuminate after shorting the specified pins:

  • The CPU board should power on.

  • The AERO.10 should proceed with its boot sequence.

Once the test is complete:

  1. Remove AC power from the AERO.10.

  2. Reinstall the orange, green, and purple wire harness.

  3. Make sure the harness is installed in the correct position and orientation.

Refer to Figure 1 for the proper connector position.

If only one LED remains illuminated

If only one LED continues to illuminate after performing the procedure, the AERO.10 requires factory service.


Step 4 — Both CPU LEDs Are Illuminated

If both CPU-board LEDs were already illuminated when AC power was applied, the CPU board is powering up.

This indicates that another component or subsystem may be preventing the AERO.10 from completing its boot sequence.

One possible cause is a failed memory SIMM.

Test the Memory SIMM

If another AERO.10 is available, the memory SIMM can be replaced with the SIMM from the known-good unit as a troubleshooting step.

If replacing the SIMM does not resolve the boot failure, the problem may be related to:

  • The CPU board

  • Another board installed in the AERO.10

In either case, factory service is required. Please send your Serial Number to support@telosalliance.com


Troubleshooting Summary

CPU Board LED Status

Recommended Action

Both LEDs illuminated

CPU board is powering up. Continue troubleshooting for another cause.

One LED illuminated

Perform the manual CPU-board power-on procedure.

Both LEDs illuminate after manual power-on

The unit should boot. Reinstall the wire harness after removing AC power.

Only one LED remains illuminated after manual power-on

Factory service is required.

Both LEDs illuminated but unit still will not boot

Check the memory SIMM if a known-good AERO.10 is available. If the SIMM is not the cause, factory service is required.
