Installing iQs and VXs: First Steps

Prev Next

Scope

This document lists the preliminary steps for preparing to install your iQs or VXs product.

Description

When installing an iQs and VXs on your own server, you may ask yourself, "So, where do I start?" Answer: right here!

There are a few preliminary steps that need to be followed in order to ensure a successful deployment. This is a consolidated "punch list" of items to care for prior to the actual installation process. At the end, you'll find a link to the next part of the process, which walks through

What You'll Need

  • Hardware: a qualified server - this would be a robust, enterprise-grade machine that is properly equipped to handle the demands of the iQs and VXs (can't just be a computer that was laying around). Not sure if you've got the right unit? Check out hardware requirements here.

    • New servers should install the linux Ubuntu Server 20.04

  • A network connection with access to the internet

    • Plug into the actual, production network you intend to use the machine on

  • A list of IP addresses you will use for your server, and one for each iQs/VXs instance that you'll be installing.
IMPORTANT: You can NOT change the IP address of your iQs/VXs instance AFTER installation, so be sure to assign the actual IP addresses that will be used.

  • Physical access to your server (computer monitor, keyboard, and mouse)

  • Basic understanding of linux command line

Let's Get Started

  1. First thing's first: register for a Quay.io account through RedHat. You'll need to do this to access the software for your products.
You'll need to create both a RedHat account, and then a Quay.io account. Here is a link explaining how to do that:
    https://docs.telosalliance.com/docker-deployment/quay.io

  2. After you have created your Quay.io account, you'll need to register your iQs and VXs products with Telos (so your account can be linked to those products). This will be particularly important during the installation process. Go here to register:
    https://success.telosalliance.com/iqs-register

  3. Once your registration is complete, the next step is to dive into the Ubuntu server. Connect up your keyboard, mouse, and monitor!
Also, get out your list of IP addresses: you'll need to assign an IP address to the main network interface card (again, be sure that this IP address is within the production network we'll be installing the unit onto).

  4. This is where we dive into the command line a little bit. After you turn on your server, login to your machine, and then check out this guide on how to do change your network settings if you need help with the Linux commands:
    https://ubuntu.com/server/docs/network-configuration

  5. Finally, just be sure that the network interface has internet access, as we will need to download software from the outside.

Next Steps

That's it! Now your server hardware is ready to move onto the installation phase of the iQs and VXs products. If you're self-installing, then head here to begin the installation process:
