Maintenance

AERO units are reliable and easy to install. Most problems turn out to be wiring mistakes that apply incorrect input signals. However, the AERO is a powerful processor with many user-adjustable parameters, some of which interact. If you cannot find the source of a problem, simplify the signal path.

System Backup and Restore

It is possible, and very easy, to back up an AERO unit’s entire configuration and settings to a computer, as well as restore them to the unit, or transfer them to a different unit.

These functions are performed on the System > System > Backup page.

To perform a System Backup page function, perform any of these steps:

  • To back up system settings to your computer, click the Backup (Download) Configuration Zip button, and provide a location for the .zip file on your computer.

  • To restore unit configuration settings, click the Restore (Upload) Configuration Zip, and provide the location of the .zip file on your computer.

  • To keep or override the IP settings when you Restore (Upload) a configuration file to the unit, click the IP configuration drop-down menu and select whether to retain or override the settings.
Select retain to keep the IP settings the same, to ensure that you do not lose connectivity. Select override to force the IP to settings to change to what is stored in the configuration file that is being loaded.

  • To keep or overwrite the unit’s password, when you Restore (Upload) a configuration file to the unit, click the Password drop-down menu, and select whether to retain or override the password.

Maintenance Page (Software and Firmware Updates)

Software and Firmware updates are managed on the Maintenance page (System > System > Maintenance).

Upload Software

The Upload Software control lets you upload a new version of AERO software and firmware (*.pak file).

To upload software

  1. On the Maintenance page, click Update Software.

  2. Locate the file and choose it to be uploaded.
Once the package is uploaded, the AERO unit checks and validates the file to ensure it is the correct file and is not corrupted. After the software is validated, the options (libraries) to update are presented. Each library represents a different aspect of the unit. These can include:

  • Operating Software

  • FPGA

  • Atmel

If the uploaded version of the library is different than what is on the current system, the Update button for the library is active. If there is no change to a library, the Update button for it is grayed out.

  1. Update each library that has changed by pressing its Update button.

Important! Each new library needs to be updated individually.

Note: These items take various amounts of time to update, with the FPGA taking the longest.

Warning! Performing any updates takes the unit off-air and stops all audio processing. Ensure that the unit is out of the broadcast path when performing any maintenance or updates.

Power Cycle

Clicking the Power Cycle restarts the unit. This is equivalent to removing power and reapplying it.

Re-initialize Software

This performs a soft reset of the unit, restarting the main software running in the unit.

Reset OLED Display

This control restarts the part of the unit that drives the front panel display and controls.

License Key Page

Use the License Key page (System > System > License Key) to apply a license to the unit.

Your AERO unit shipped with a root (base) license based on the purchased configuration. You can add option licenses that are provided by Telos Alliance.

Note: A new license key is generated (and installed) when any features are changed (such as when additional product options or AMX instances are added to the unit in the field).

Warning! Installing a different license key takes the unit off-air, stops all audio processing, and disconnects all NfRemote connections. Ensure that the unit is out of the broadcast path when performing any license key updates, maintenance, or software updates.

To apply a license key to your AERO (in NfRemote):

  1. (Recommended) Back up the current license key if applicable by performing these steps.

    1. Choose System > System > License Key.

    2. Mouse over the Current Key field, right-click, and copy the key to your clipboard.

    3. Paste it in a Word or text document.

  2. Procure the license key that was supplied by Telos Alliance.

  3. Copy the new license key (for example, by right-clicking on it and choosing Copy).

  4. Choose System > System > License Key.

  5. Paste the license key in the New field.

  6. Click Apply License Key.

The NfRemote application will close and restart. If it does not, manually close NfRemote.

  1. (Recommended) Restart the unit after installing a new license key.

  2. Relaunch NfRemote.
In the middle section, you should see menu tabs for each instance that was included in the license key (for example, Instance 1, Instance 2, and Instance 3).

To back up the current license:

  • Choose System > System > License Key.

  • Mouse over the Current Key field, right-click, and copy the key to your clipboard.

  • Paste it in a Word or text document.

Misc Config Page

The Misc Config (miscellaneous configuration) page (System > System > Misc Config) is where ATSC A/85 (default) or EBU R-128 Mode can be selected for loudness control, measurement, and logging. This is available on an AMX instance by instance basis.
