Description
Sometimes, when adding new Audio Sources (particularly on new installations), the Source Deice list will be empty, as shown here;
The Problem
Particularly on Windows Server installations, if you install Windows Server and it does not see a physical sound card, it will set the Windows Audio service to Manual and will not start it on reboot.
If you come back later and install something Virtual like the Axia IP-Audio Driver, that service remains in a Manual start-up state. To confirm this;
Open the Run menu (Windows Key + R) and enter the command services.msc, and click OK.
Scroll down and locate the Windows Audio service in the list of services. Note on this screenshot that the Startup Type is set to Manual, and nothing is shown under the Status column.
Correcting the Service Settings
You will need Administrative privileges to make the following changes.
From the Services snap-in that you opened in the previous section.
Right-click on the Windows Audio service.
Choose Properties.
On the General tab, set the Startup Type to Automatic.
Click OK
Reboot your computer
Verify your changes
After reboot, verify that you have SOource devices listed .
