Q: This used to be an option. Where did it go?
A: The Broadcast Tools Protocol Translator was removed from Pathfinder in version 5.31 and higher.
Q: Why?
In early 2016 we removed the Broadcast Tools protocol from the protocol translator package that we supply with Pathfinder software. We did this to be good "corporate citizens" after Broadcast Tools requested we not include this. New installations of Pathfinder are not able to use Broadcast Tools protocol translation. Older installs were not affected by this.
We often hear from customers who are not happy about this and are holding us responsible for this change.
We never wanted to take away features from Axia customers. Please know we did not do this on our own. We tried very hard to get Broadcast Tools to relent on their demands.
Ever since the founding of Telos by Steve Church, we have operated on the principles of being good corporate citizens, treating our customers and our industry with class and kindness, and not bully our way through situations where we have differences with others. Think of the Golden Rule.
A complaint about this is best expressed to Broadcast Tools. Call or contact them and explain your concern. Nothing in our industry gets better if we don't speak directly to people or companies that we don't agree with... or at least try. Encourage Broadcast Tools to make a product that is IP based (and that will work with your Axia system). Explain why you want that versus buying older serial-based technology from the 80s.
