# Spotlight SaaS: An Introduction

## **The Role of a Signaling Server**

Signaling servers play an essential role in establishing and managing server to browser connections for WebRTC applications. It is the technology that enables real-time audio, video and data, to be shared between web browsers and media servers. The applications include Telos Alliance Axia® Altus and Altus SE™ virtual consoles and the Telos Infinity® VIP Virtual Intercom Platform.

In tandem with a customer-provided TURN server, or subscription to a TURN service provider like Xirsys, Spotlight SaaS represents an easy-to-deploy, Telos Alliance-managed, cloud based and redundant, signaling server. It is an alternative to a locally hosted signaling server. It helps overcome maintenance and security concerns and technical barriers that sometimes limit the adoption of virtualized products.

## **Pairing Spotlight SaaS with Telos Alliance Products**

Spotlight provides an alternate deployment option to a signaling server running in an on-premise Linux PC/server. It enables the current suite of included WebRTC connectivity, monitoring and contribution licenses for Altus and Altus SE. When paired with the recently launched Altus SE, form our Studio Essentials™ series, Spotlight SaaS provides a WebRTC option that is as easy to set up and deploy as Altus SE itself.

It also replaces the Spotlight signaling server that can run in VIP’s on-premise server.
