Backup your current settings

Before proceeding with any update, we suggest making a backup of your current configuration. Save your user processing, and I/O Config presets to your computer from the web interface's Data Mgmt page.

  1. Navigate to the Data Mgmt tab in the web interface.

  2. In the DOWNLOAD PRESETS section, click on any user preset you'd like to retain and save them to your computer.

  3. Scroll down to the DOWNLOAD IO CONFIGURATIONS section, and similarly, click on any I/O configs you need to save.

  4. Your network parameters and Livewire Input settings will be carried over and activated automatically after the update. In some cases, Livewire Output settings may not re-populate, so be sure to write your Livewire output channel numbers down or take a screen capture of configuration settings before proceeding.

IMPORTANT NOTES - PLEASE READ BEFORE UPDATING

We recommend a full power cycle following the software installation.  For this reason, we advise that you do NOT attempt this update remotely. Perform this update only while you are physically in front of the unit.

This update is for Omnia.11’s currently running version 1.5, 1.6, or 3.x ONLY! If your unit is running ANY EARLIER VERSION and you have not installed the version 1.5(85) compact flash card, please go here to order the v1.5 CF card.

Software Update Procedure

Please click this link Omnia.11 v4.0(17) to download the update file and save it to a known location on the computer you will use to perform the update.

Below is the step-by-step procedure for uploading the new firmware to your Omnia.11. Note that this will involve removing the unit from the air for several minutes, so be sure to have a backup processor ready or perform the update at a time when the station can be down. Note that steps 1 through 5 can be performed while the unit is still on the air.

  1. Connect to the Omnia.11 via Ethernet using a web browser, then log in. (Default password is “omnia”).

  2. Navigate to the Configuration menu, and in the “Software Bank Selection and Update” section, click on the word “Update” inside the gray button. (it will become underlined when the mouse is properly positioned over it).

  3. Read the confirmation text and click the “Continue” button to confirm that you want to proceed with the update process. Note that on-air audio will not be interrupted during the upload phase of the update.

  4. Click the “Browse” button and find the v4.0 update file (.oup) you downloaded from the Omnia website. Highlight it, click “Open,” and it should appear in the “Update file:” box. Click the “Update” button to begin.

Do not disturb or remove power from the Omnia until the update is complete. Any power interruption will result in a corrupted upload, and the Omnia may have to be sent in for repair. Use of a UPS power backup is recommended, and shifting to a backup processor during this process is strongly advised.

  5. The update process loads the new firmware into the non-active bank and will take a couple of minutes. To view update progress, click on the link: “Click here to monitor the progress of the update.” You will need to manually move the scroll bar on the right-hand edge of the update monitor box down periodically (you can also use the mouse wheel) to see all of the text. When you see the " Update successful" message at the bottom, the file's upload is complete.
If you do not see the Update successful message after several minutes, contact Omnia Support for assistance.

  6. Once updating is successful, click the “Select New Software (Configuration Page).” link at the bottom of the page. (Or the “Configuration” button at the top). In the “Software Bank Selection and Update:” section, you should now see Version 4.0 loaded into the currently inactive software bank. At this point, your Omnia.11 is still running the previous version, as you can see next to “Running Software:”

  7. To select and activate the new version, click the select button for the bank where the new version is located and then click the “Apply” button. (Be sure not to click the “Update” button again instead!) You will now see this message: “Software bank (0 or 1) selected. The newly selected software will be active after a reboot.

  8. At this point, you must reboot the Omnia.11 via power-cycle. Please remove power from the unit for about 20-30 seconds and restore power to the unit. Note that this will take you off the air for several minutes! Be sure you have a backup processor online or are prepared to be off the air for the next few minutes. Note also that the unit may reboot on its own more than once when powered back up.

  9. After the Omnia logo screen appears, you will see text messages on the screen as the unit boots and is configured to run the new software for the first time. Please note that the time required to boot for the first time will be much longer than a normal boot-up since an I/O board update will occur. (After about a minute or so, you should see the message "Updating I/O Board…This will take a few minutes." The screen will remain like this for the next few minutes. This delay is normal, and the update is not stuck! After finishing the I/O board update, you should see the message "Done with Update...Rebooting". The unit will now reboot (perhaps twice), and the touch screen interface will finally appear.

  10. Touch the Input or Output icon button and then the “I/O Config” tab. Now touch the padlock icon to unlock the I/O config preset list and select your desired I/O Config preset from the list. If you do not have one, select “default.”

  11. Touch any of the processing icon buttons and then the “Preset” tab. Now touch the padlock icon to unlock the preset list and then select your desired processing preset from the list.

  12. If you were using the Livewire outputs you may need to go into the Setup menu to re-enter your output channel numbers and re-enable the Livewire outputs. Please note that for proper sync, the Livewire inputs should not be used unless at least one of the Livewire outputs is enabled.

CONGRATULATIONS! The update procedure is complete. You may now return the Omnia.11 to normal service.

If you are using the composite MPX outputs and are updating from v1.5, check your modulation since the MPX output levels may be higher for a given setting after the update.

The next section contains the change log and manual addendum so be sure to read-on for information about the new features and enhancements in this update!

The following changes [since v3.7(103)] are included in this update:

Version 4.0 (17) - July 2021

  • New Silvio clipper mode (available only in G-Force) provides an even cleaner, brighter and more open sound without a loudness penalty!

  • New and Updated Presets, taking full advantage of the new Silvio clipper's extended capabilities! These presets have an "SVO" suffix. See full descriptions of the new & updated presets below.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed: Use of password protected presets could result in a Java (GUI) crash.

  • Fixed: Livewire clocking could get out of sync after an update, resulting in occasional dropouts for AoIP users. Re-saving Livewire settings fixed this, and is now automatically adjusted with this release

Other

  • Due to software incompatibilities, we have removed the ability to demo G-Force mode on older (Orange GUI) units.

Known Issues

● The L/R peak output level from the analog, AES/EBU and Livewire outputs in new Silvio clipper mode is slightly higher than in the two Pepino clipper modes by about 0.7dB.

New and Updated Presets

CCM_2020_SVO - This preset is designed around “bright” and/or highly processed music content, such as Contemporary Christian music, and some country.  It attempts to preserve some of the high frequency content while “normalizing” program density.

CG_AAA_SVO -  A general purpose preset with a  “flat” frequency response profile.  Useful for AC and Triple-A contemporary formats. Processes pretty much anything well, a great starting point! Note that it is an evolution of the old "CGSmooth" preset but utilizing all of the current up to date G-Force features.

CG_CHRHOT_SVO - A CHR / Hot format preset with a flat profile.  An opposing counterpart to the “CG_Hot_AC” preset.

CG_CHRHOT_WM_SVO - Same profile as the CG_CHRHot preset, but with more low end bass tones.

CG_HOTAC_SVO (All versions): - For “Hot” type music formats, many programmers are looking for variations to start with to build their signature sound.  These presets play with different loudness profiles / density textures.  They are closely related to the CG_CHRHot presets.

CG_Cls_Rock_SVO: A nice open, yet “full” sounding preset that can be useful for Classic Rock or AC stations that desire just enough “oomph” to keep the listeners engaged.

CG_HOTAC_WM1_SVO: Warmer / Fuller versions of the CG Hot AC (and the Silvio clipper update versions).

CG_HOTAC_WM2_SVO: Version of the WM1 preset with more low bass tones.

CG_NEO_Kicks_SVO and CG_NEO_Kicks_WM_SVO: The “Kicks” presets are able to give a solid “kick” to bass / kick drums.  Useful for formats that need that extra “kick”.  The “WM” version adds some warmer bass tones too.

CG_NEO_Thumps_SVO and CG_NEO_Thumps_WM_SVO: These presets add an element of “excitement” for contemporary music formats with some subtle kick drum enhancement.  The “WM version adds warmer bass tones.

CG_PubTalk_SVO, CG_PubTalk_WM1_SVO, and CG_PubTalk_WM2_SVO: We’ve updated our “PubTalk” presets for use with the new Silvio clipper.  These presets are intended for FM talk formats that desire lots of long term listening, such as non-commercial public radio talk.  The WM versions add warmer bass tones, if desired.

CG_RockNRoll1_SVO and CG_RockNRoll2_SVO: New “CG Version” rock presets.  Intended for formats that need that “rock and roll” edge.  RockNRoll2_SVO is a less compressed version.

CG_Smooth1_SVO and CG_Smooth2_SVO: These are updates to the old "CGSmooth" Preset, versions of which have existed for quite some time. It is a good general purpose preset that is a compromise between "light AC" type presets, and "RockNRoll" style presets. The AGC section is run more traditionally here. See also CG_AAA_SVO.

CHR1_SVO - CHR2_SVO: These presets provide a similar texture and loudness as “Event Horizon”, but with less clipper activity.  CHR2 features more presence in vocal bands and bass percussion.

EventHorizon_SVO: An updated version of the EventHorizon preset that many use to build crazy-loud presets from.  Event Horizon: The "nuclear" preset option. Use at your own risk!

HotAC_SVO and HotAC_WM_SVO:   An updated version of HotAC preset that takes advantage of the Silvio clipper for warmer / more present  bass notes.  The WM version has more of the warm bass notes dialed in.

Nashville Silvio presets.  These presets are new additions to the “Nashville” country preset series.  Version 7 has a smile curve frequency profile (less mids, more highs and lows) than the version 8 presets.  The “Br” version has a “bright” frequency response profile.

Ohio Valley_SVO: This preset is an update to the “Ohio Valley” preset for the new Silvio clipper.  If you want a preset with lots of warm bass tones, then this one's for you!

Revibe_2020_SVO: This is an update to the popular “Revibe” preset, optimized for the Silvio clipper.  Like G-Force, Revibe has a great unique bass signature that many enjoy for contemporary pop music formats.

RockNRoll_SVO: An update to the “RockNRoll” preset that features the new Silvio Clipper.

UrbanAC_SVO: Since the Silvio Clipper is able to preset warm & full bass better than any version before it, we couldn’t resist building an Urban AC preset around it!

_______

New classical presets that take advantage of the Silvio Clipper option:

CG_Classical_SVO_A: Generally a “rounded” sounding classical preset.  Dynamics are “tucked in”

CG_Classical_SVO_B: A more dynamic version of CG_Clasical A.  Midrange frequencies are able to dynamically move forward in the mix.

CG_Classical_WM_SVO: A Warmer sounding version of the classical preset.  Low mids and bass areas are more dynamic compared to version B

CG_Clscal_Movie: Classic preset that has more “processing” in it - gives some of the “movie soundtrack” feel.

_______

Updated "G-Force" presets

When G-Force was first released, we had one preset that was specifically built on some of the unique qualities of this version of the Omnia.11.  Many grew to enjoy its unique bass signature, and desired more options for various formats.  We listened!  With the power of the new Silvio Clipper, we were able to be creative, and create versions of the G-Force presets that have an almost “3-D bass” quality.

GForce_SVO: An updated version of G-Force that takes advantage of the Silvio Clipper.

GForce_AC1_SVO and GForce_AC2_SVO: A version of G-Force with a “flatter” frequency response profile along with a bright signature.

GForce_UrbanAC_SVO: A version of G-Force AC with a warmer bass profile.
