Calibrating the Touch Screen of the Omnia.9 (MkII Only)

Scope

How to calibrate the touch screen of the Omnia.9 if needed. MkII units only.

Description

If you find that the touch screen of your Omnia.9 MkII is "off", it can be calibrated using the procedure below.

Solution

This is only applicable to Omnia.9 MkII units. Earlier units used a different display. You can verify this in System / System Status / System Information. "Hardware Version:" must say "MkII" or MkII+"

  • Plug in a keyboard to the USB port of the Omnia 9

Activate Maintenance Mode

To activate maintenance mode

  1. Press Alt+F4

  2. Go to the Windows desktop

  3. Use arrow keys and go to the uwfoff application on the desktop. Press Enter

  4. Use the arrow keys and go to "Restart Application" on the desktop. Press Enter

  5. The system will reboot. When you see the yellow "maintenance" in the upper left-hand corner, press CTRL

You should now have the unit in maintenance mode.

Calibrate the Screen

  1. Press the Windows key

  2. Type "calibrate" and Press the down arrow on the keyboard until you get to settings, click Enter

  3. Press the down arrow on the keyboard until you select “Calibrate the screen for pen or touch input” and click Enter

  4. Click TAB until you are highlighted over the reset button and press Enter

NOTE: at this point, the touchscreen should be working! Press around on the screen to confirm!

  1. Close out of the window

  2. Use arrow keys and go to uwfon application on desktop

  3. Use arrow keys and go to restart application on desktop

If the issue still persists, check the following things

  • Does the bracket of the Omnia 9 screen touch the screen itself, if so take the bracket out of the chassis and remove the screen. Physically bend the bracket so the screen and bracket are not touching anymore

  • Also, there should be some plastic washers that are on the bracket between it and the screen. This is to create a gap between the screen and the bracket to avoid touching
