Configuring PD-Alert servers
Since version 2.5.13, PDM has been able to send PD-Alerts to encrypted mail servers, including a number of publicly-available services. However, different services have different security requirements for email clients. This document goes over our experience with several third-party services; these all work as of the time of this writing, but we cannot guarantee that these companies will not make incompatible changes.
GMail
PD-Alerts are tested and working with Gmail.com servers, but you must turn on the setting for "Allow less secure apps." See https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/6010255 for details.
Yahoo
PD-Alerts are tested and working with Yahoo.com servers, but you must generate and use an "application password" for PDM. See https://help.yahoo.com/kb/generate-third-party-passwords-sln15241.html for details.
Hotmail
PD-Alerts are tested and working with Hotmail.com servers; no special configuration required.
