How many destinations (servers) can I add in a Z/IPStream

Scope

This article applies only to

  • Z/IP Stream R/20

  • Z/IP Stream X/20

The predecessor to Z/IPStream R/20 and X/20 (the R/2 and X/2) follow similar conventions.

Description

The Z/IPStream is controlled by licenses that activate or limit certain features.  Those licenses might control how many Icecast or SHOUTcast MP3 encoders you can add.

The following features are included with each Program input

  • 4 - AAC encoders

  • 4 - xHE AAC encoders

  • 4 - Adaptive AAC encoders (HLS)

  • 4 - MP3 Encoders

  • 4  - Metadata2 Sources

  • 4 - SHOUTcast or Icecast Stream monitors (Z/IP Stream R/20 only)

Keep in mind that the “base” Z/IPStream R/20 comes standard with two program inputs, so on those units the numbers would be doubled)

Some further explanation

Some people have asked why these are licensed at all.  The answer is that Telos Alliance only uses fully licensed encoders and decoders directly from Fraunhofer which has a cost associated with it. These licenses allow us to track and report their usage to Fraunhofer.
