How Program Omnia.9sg SNMP Power Monitor using FT-Prog

Scope

This document assumes the reader is familiar with the Omnia 9.sg SNMP Power Monitor Board. If you need assistance or are missing any required materials please contact Telos Alliance.

Required Materials

  • Micro-USB-B to USB-A cable

  • Windows PC

  • FTDI’s “FT_PROG” programming utility

  • OMNIA.9sg POWER MONITOR FIRMWARE [1621-00183-xxx]

First Time Setup

  1. Extract the files from “1621-001183-xxx OMNIA.9sg POWER MONITOR FIRMWARE.zip”

  2. Run “FT_Prog_v3.6.88.402 Installer.exe” to install the FT_Prog application

  3. Navigate to the location that FT_Prog was installed into. Typically, this is
    “%programfiles(x86)\FTDI\FT_Prog”

  4. From the firmware archive, copy all files starting with “1621-00183” into the FT_Prog
    installation directory

  5. Copy FT_Prog.exe to the desktop

  6. Disconnect all other cables from the PC that contain FTDI devices. You can ensure that this is the case by running FTP_Prog.exe and clicking the “Scan” button (magnifying glass icon). Verify that the scan detects no devices.

Programming Instructions

The Power Monitor can be programmed with just a cable to a PC. No host product or power

supply is required.

  1. Connect the USB-A side of the cable to a free USB port in the programming PC.

  2. Connect the Micro USB-B side of the cable to the power monitor board under test

  3. Open FT_Prog.exe

  4. Click the “Scan” button (magnifying glass icon) to scan for devices.

  5. Right-click on the device when it appears in the Device Tree

  6. Find the “apply template” option

  7. Select the from “From file” option

  8. In the pop-up browse to the 1621-00183-XXX O9sg-DP-PM.xml

    Note: This should be located in “%programfiles(x86)\FTDI\FT_Prog” directory

  9. Select 1621-00183-XXX O9sg-DP-PM.xml

  10. Click Open

  11. Confirm the message “The Template Was Successfully Applied.” appears

  12. Click OK

  13. Click the “Progam” button (lightning bolt icon) to open the programming menu

  14. Ensure the “Only Program Blank Devices” is not checked

    Note: This is the default

  15. Click the Program button

  16. Wait for Finished Programming to appear in the bottom left corner.

  17. Click Cycle ports

  18. Wait for “Ready Finished Cycle Port” to appear

  19. Click close

The SNMP power Monitor is now programmed. Repeat steps for all units needing to be programmed, or move to the testing documentation if you are ready to deploy.
