Migrating a ZIPStream X/20 Configuration to a New PC
Overview
This article explains how to migrate an existing ZIPStream X/20 installation and configuration from one Windows PC to another while preserving system settings and licenses.
Important: Do not manually copy the application installation directory. Install ZIPStream X/20 using the current installer, then copy only the configuration data.
Prerequisites
Before beginning, ensure you have:
Administrative access to both the source and destination PCs.
The latest ZIPStream X/20 installer.
Network access (or removable media) to transfer the configuration folder.
Sufficient time to deactivate and reactivate the software license.
Migration Procedure
1. Stop Active Programs
On the (old) PC, stop any programs associated with the running ZIPStream X/20.
2. Release the License
Open the ZIPStream X/20 Web UI.
Navigate to Licenses.
Click Release to release the license activation from the old PC.
3. Install ZIPStream X/20 on the New PC
Install ZIPStream X/20 using the latest installer: Link
Do not manually copy the installation directory:
C:\Program Files (x86)\ZIPStream X20\
4. Stop the ZIPStream X/20 Service
On the new PC:
Open the Windows Services management console.
Locate ZIPStream X/20.
Stop the service.
5. Preserve the New Configuration
Navigate to:
C:\ProgramData\Telos Systems\
Rename the existing folder:
ZIPStream X20
to something such as:
ZIPStream X20 New
This preserves the default configuration created during installation.
6. Copy the Existing Configuration
From the old PC, copy the folder:
C:\ProgramData\Telos Systems\ZIPStream X20
to the same location on the new PC.
7. Start the Service
Start the ZIPStream X/20 Windows service.
The service should now load the transferred configuration from the original system.
8. Reactivate the License
Open the ZIPStream X/20 Web UI on the new PC.
Navigate to Licenses.
The existing licenses should appear in an unactivated state.
Click Activate to activate the license on the new system.
9. Verify Activation
Allow several seconds for the activation status to update.
Once activation is complete, start any required ZIPStream X/20 applications and verify normal operation.
10. Clean Up the Old PC (Optional)
If the old PC will no longer be used, remove the licenses from that system.
This prevents the old installation from attempting to use the same licenses now assigned to the new PC.
Verification
After completing the migration:
The ZIPStream X/20 service starts successfully.
All previous configuration settings are present.
Licenses display as Activated.
All required applications operate normally.
Start your encoders.
Troubleshooting
If the transferred configuration does not load:
Verify that the ZIPStream X/20 service was stopped before replacing the configuration folder.
Confirm the configuration folder was copied to:
C:\ProgramData\Telos Systems\ZIPStream X20Ensure the software license has been successfully activated on the new PC.
If activation fails, verify that the license was released from the original PC before attempting activation on the new system.
