Setting up a PowerStation

Scope

This article applies to the PowerStation Integrated Engine with Element and Fusion Consoles.

Description:

Use this document to install or re-install a new or newly repaired PowerStation. There are some things that should be configured before the Powerstation is added to an already-existing network.

1) Set IP Address

  • Power up the Powerstation with nothing but a DVI monitor and Element (or USB Keyboard) connected.

  • Set the IP address using this process here.

2) Set up the Gigabit Ethernet ports

  • Connect a PC to one of the 10/100 ports on the PowerStation's integrated switch

  • Using a browser, navigate to the Web GUI by entering the IP address configured above

  • Go to the Ethernet Switch > Options page

  • Select the GB port that will connect to the main Axia switch, set it to Trunk and click the appropriate Apply button.

3) Power Down the Unit

The PowerStation has the ability to become the IGMP querier and the clock sync generator for a network. While the PowerStation is running with no external network, both of these functions will be actively running on the tiny network inside the PowerStation. Before the PowerStation can be added to an already-existing Axia network, you'll want to power it down to prevent this from causing a problem on the larger network.

4) Connect to Main Switch

While the PowerStation is powered down, connect the Trunk from the main switch to the GB port we just set up to be Trunk.

5) Power Up the Unit

Once a Trunk is connected to the appropriate GB port on the PowerStation, you can power it back up. The PowerStation will recognize that it is part of a larger network and will be less likely to start running IGMP querier and clock generating functions.

Once the PowerStation is happily deployed onto the network, the rest of the configuration can be completed.

6) Capture the Console

If you don't remember how to capture the console hardware, click here.

This step can not be performed from the configuration website and must be performed from the console surface. You won't be able to configure any show profiles or load any sources to channel positions if you haven't captured the console from the surface's master module.

7) Finish Configuration

Once the console is connected and captured, now is the time to load any backup configs you might have or begin configuring Sources, Shows, etc.

If you have a Powerstation Aux, or a Fusion, you'll need to pair the hardware using the Mix Engine > Network page of the Protestation's configuration website. More on that can be found by clicking here.
