Quick Tweak provides a simplified set of processing controls for making common adjustments without using the full processing interface.
The recommended starting point is to audition several factory presets and then use Quick Tweak to tailor the one that best matches your programming.
Quick Tweak controls are not included in the front panel touchscreen.
Adjusting a Preset with Quick Tweak
After selecting a preset, you can use Quick Tweak to customize it.
To access Quick Tweak controls:
Launch the web UI.
Click FM / HD Processing.
In the header, make sure the PROC tab is enabled.
This provides a view of meters in the first panel, a list of presets and the Presets, Quick, and Expanded buttons in the second panel.
In the middle panel, click Quick.
The Quick Tweak controls display in the bottom panel.
To adjust a control in the Quick Tweak panel:
To change a value with a mouse, click and drag within the control area, and move the mouse to the right to increase a value, or to the left to decrease a value.
To change a value by typing in a value, click in the value field for a control, press Delete to erase the current value, type in a new value, and then click Enter.
After adjusting a control, the Current Preset label in the middle panel header changes to Modified Preset.
Using Quick Tweak Controls
The most commonly adjusted Omnia XII controls are grouped in sections on two Quick Tweak pages.
Overall page: Loudness, Bass, Midrange, and Treble.
Enhancers page: Stereo Enhancement and Bass EFX.
After adjusting Quick Tweak controls, save the changes as a user preset. See Working with Presets.
Loudness
The first important control to adjust is the Backend Drive (in the Loudness section).
Since every air chain and market is different, this control should always be adjusted to as low a setting as possible for the level of loudness needed. You can think of this control as adjusting the primary loudness vs. distortion tradeoff.
We suggest that each time you try a new factory preset, you adjust the Backend Drive in this manner:
Click the Overall tab.
Turn the Overall control in the Loudness section all the way down to 0.0.
Adjust the Backend Drive control down in 0.5 dB steps until the loudness just falls off too much and then bring it up a bit from there.
Turn up the Overall until about 0.5 to 1.0 dB of activity can be seen on the right-hand meter of the Clipper meters.
This is usually the correct Overall and Backend Drive settings for the currently selected preset. On some presets, you may need to turn Backend Drive up instead of down. This is OK too. Adjust it up in the same 0.5 dB steps until you achieve the loudness required or the sound becomes too distorted, whichever comes first. If the distortion comes first, you probably need to start with a more aggressive preset.
Note: If you are turning up the Backend Drive to increase loudness and you reach a point where the loudness and distortion do not seem to be increasing as you would expect, you have likely run into the Overall ceiling. Try turning down the Overall control a little. This will allow more clipping to take place. For more information about the clipper, see Adjusting Omnia XII Processing.
Bass
Growl in the Bass section is the next control that is important to adjust with each preset that you try.
Growl tunes a number of behind-the-scenes parameters at once to tune the Omnia XII for the desired amount of bass. Higher settings can make the bass effects (bass enhancers in the Bass EFX section) to be more pronounced. So after making an adjustment to Growl, review the Deep and Warm settings in the Bass FX section (on the Enhancers page), if needed.
Treble
Presence and Brightness controls, located in the Treble section, adjust high-frequency character.
A setting of 0% adds no additional brightness to the selected preset. Turn each control up to taste while being careful not to use more than needed since excessive limiter activity or clipping can occur with very high settings. A little goes a long way here!
