The 2101 software update files are the following:
- ‘Image’ file for Studio unit
- ‘Winsim.exe’ file for Hub
- ‘Hybrid” file for the Extended Hybrid unit
Software updates are initiated via the Web Browser for the Hub and via the front panel menu options in the Hybrids. Within the hub’s Software Update web page are options to change to a specific bank, change the update path location of the file location and the FTP server address. Similar options reside in the Software update menu options in the Hybrids (except for the file path). All parameters need to be set accordingly to pull the needed software into the units. You MUST be operating in the PRIMARY bank in order to update the SECONDARY bank with the needed software. The FTP site must have the correct name or IP address of the machine or Internet location to find the appropriate software.
Using the Software Updater package.
New software downloads are available in a package that INCLUDES a generic FTP server with all the released software imbedded to the program, nested in their proper directories. This package is installed to a user’s NT workstation that resides on the 2101 network. It allows the user’s computer to be used as a server for 2101 software updates if there is no outside internet access for the 2101 system to get the new code. No other software installation is required.
See the current Customer Support bulletin for update procedures relating to the TWO series products.
Using the Telos FTP server program
You can also use the Telos FTP server application separately should you need to install beta or alpha software. This FTP software can only run on a Windows NT machine (NT/2000/XP)!
File Name: tsFTPserv.exe (available from our website)
With this application you must manually move the needed software to the appropriate ROOT directory for the units to find the software. Each Telos product has a default software update path coded so it knows where to find it’s correct file. This path can be changed but is typically left alone to the default path. The updater packages we release do not have an option to change the directory paths as needed. Within the 2101 hub the path is noted in the Software update page. Within the Hybrids you can change this path in a Telnet session.
The current default paths are:
Hub- /pub/2101/updates/winsim.exe
Hybrid- /pub/2101/updates/image
Ext. Hybrid- /pub/2101/updates/hybrid
When the tsFTPserve application is installed it creates a ROOT directory. Within this root directory the above nested path structure plus the files must reside (you may have to manually create this directory structure) OR you can change the assigned ROOT directory if you have this nested directory structure somewhere else on your hard drive.
NOTE: It is possible to update several Studio units at a time. The FTP Server is able to handle several download connections at a time, approx 5-8 at a time if you stagger the Update Software starting times about 2-3 seconds apart.
2101 Configuration Utility Software (OLD VERSION)
This is the old application used for the 2101 Hub settings and software update. To use this utility it must be run on an NT based workstation. This has been replaced by the Web Browser interface but this application sometimes comes in handy, particularly if you need to get a text version of the registry settings. It also may be the only recourse you have to repair the registry if the web server has crashed on the 2101 hub. There are some noted bugs you need to be aware of if you use this application. Improper use can cause registry corruption in the 2101 hub. There are additional steps on how to manually correct this problem should you encounter this with a customer. Most of the step-by-step procedures can be found documented and archived in the 2101 folder of the support email account. Please contact a developer for specifics and details on this method if this is a last resort issue.
(Note, the newest Web Browser interface automatically fixes this registry corruption problem on 2101 systems. When launched the application checks the registry and forces the user to fix this problem immediately if problems are found.)
This old application offers most of the same options available via the web browser. Features added since this app was retired will obviously not be available.
- Set up the Hub basic parameters (IP address/ Port number…)
- Set up the trunk configuration (T1/PRI)
- Set up the phone numbers
- Create and configure shows
- Update the Hub software
WARNING: the 2101 Hub is password-protected against any computer that would try to connect to it. Before connecting to the Hub with this utility the user has to be authorized to ‘talk’ to the hub. If your PC is not authenticated to the hub To do this you will need to search for the Hub by using its IP address.
- Go to Network Neighborhood to run a SEARCH for Computers and enter the IP address of the Hub. By default the IP address should be 192.168.21.1
- When the computer finds it, just double click on the computer icon. A login and password screen will pop up and you will be asked for the following information:
- Login: Administrator
- Password: Administrator
If your computer search fails to find the hub verify the workstation is on the same IP address range and the subnet mask is correct.
Close the Network Neighborhood window. Now the user computer will be able to connect to the Hub using the Configuration Utility. To connect to the Hub enter the IP address and press the CONNECT button. When you are connected the RED square next the CONNECT button should turn GREEN.
Noted bugs:
- Modifying/Deleting Shows and Studios in a particular order can cause mis-numbering and orphaned key and value entries in the SHOW HOSTS registry key. This corruption can cause the hub to spontaneously reboot when Assistant Producer software attempts to connect to the hub.
- Saving the Registry settings more than ONCE during a logged in session will truncate the first 15 lines of the settings on the second attempt to SAVE the settings. The first attempt always works correctly. Attempts to load a corrupted saved settings file will fail and cause this application to crash and will corrupt the registry of the hub. You will then be forced to manually correct the registry thru Netmeeting before continuing.
- Some other unknown actions within the menu may cause this application to crash. Not clearly documented as to what may cause this problem.
These problems will NEVER be fixed. This utility has been retired.
Assistant Producer Software
Assistant Producer (AP) is more than a basic call-screener. It also allows the user to control any DD from his computer for remote show purposes. AP can run on any Windows based system (95/98/NT/2000/XP).
Unlike the two other applications, AP is sold separately as an option.
The use of AP is password-protected. So a user account has to be created through the 2101 Hub Web Browser interface before you can use Assistant Producer. From the User Manager web page select Add a new user. Type the user name and choose a password. All users logging into the Hub for screening MUST have their OWN login name. AP requires that all users have a UNIQUE login name. This is required in order for AP to send text data to other users unique to itself. If two users share a same name then AP won’t pass data between the two clients.
Now AP is ready to be installed on workstations connected to the same network as the 2101 system.
Installation is fairly straightforward. User’s settings are saved to the registry under the Current User key.
Once installed the startup of the application will prompt the user for the server and their login info.
Basically, three parameters are used to set up an AP screening session:
- Server IP (or name): this represents the Hub’s IP address (name)
- Login: name of the user
- Password: User’s assigned Password
These parameters are accessible through the ‘Server’ menu.
Note: The login names and passwords have to be created into the Hub’s Configuration thru the web pages.
See the AP 3.5 User’s manual for additional information.
