Z/IP ONE Confidence Monitor using Livewire

Scope

This article will outline how to use Pathfinder Core Pro to loop the output of a Z/IP ONE back into its input via Livewire for the purpose of creating a "confidence monitor" at a remote location.

Description

Some customers are using the Z/IP ONE to deliver one-way audio from a remote site to a hub or central site. As such, they have asked if it is possible to receive that same audio audio back from their central site to their remote site to be used as a confidence monitor (to confirm there are no problems with the transmission).

This confidence monitor can be achieved one of 2 ways:

  1. Plug the Analog Outputs of the Central Z/IP ONE back into the Analog Inputs, either directly, or by using an analog distribution amplifier (pictured above), and then use that same distribution amplifier or Livewire to deliver the signal to the airchain.

  2. Use Livewire and Pathfinder Core Pro to "loopback" the audio directly from the Z/IP ONE source to its destination. This article will demonstrate how to use this method.

Requirements

  • Z/IP ONE unit

  • Livewire network

  • Pathfinder Core Pro (this will work with legacy versions of Pathfinder as well, but the process outlined in this article is for Pathfinder Core Pro)

The Problem

When configuring a Z/IP ONE unit for use with Livewire, you are required to define its source channel (the Livewire multicast audio output) that all Livewire devices on a network can use to receive the Z/IP ONE's audio output. However, it is not possible to select this source (audio output) channel number within destination (audio input) list.

Requirements, Steps, Etc.
