Telos VX® Duo QSG

Welcome to Telos VX® Duo

We know you are excited to start using your new VX Duo, so let’s get started! The initial hardware configuration consists of the following steps:

  • Connecting power, a USB keyboard, and a VGA display

  • Assigning IP addresses

  • Connecting to a network

  • Continuing product configuration from a web browser

  • Activating additional licenses, if you have purchased any

Rear Panel Overview

Figure 1 - Rear panel connections

Rear panel connections include:

  • DC 12V port for external 120V - 240V, 50/60Hz power supply (included)

  • WAN (LAN1) network interface

  • AoIP (LAN2) network interface

  • VGA display port

  • The LAN3 and LAN4 ports are not utilized.

The front panel features two USB ports which are used for setting the IP address.

Installation and Power

VX Duo is a passively cooled product with no internal fans. The entire enclosure is made of anodized aluminum to allow for maximum heat dissipation. While it can be placed virtually anywhere, we recommend against placing it inside a cabinet with no ventilation.  If you place it on a rack shelf, we recommend leaving a 1RU clearance above to allow for optimal cooling.

While there is a power switch on the front panel, VX Duo will power on automatically after it is connected to AC power and begin the boot process, which takes about 60 seconds.

Connecting a Keyboard and Display

Connect a USB keyboard to one of the front panel USB ports and a VGA display to the rear panel VGA port. Once connected, you should see the Network Settings menu (see Figure 2) on the display. You may need to press the escape key on your keyboard to wake the display. If a different menu is shown, press the escape key until you have navigated back to this menu.

The arrow, escape, tab, and enter keys are used to navigate the menus and make choices:

  • The left, right, up, and down arrow keys are used to navigate within and between fields

  • The Tab key is used to navigate between fields and the action section

  • The Enter key is used to choose an action or menu

  • The Escape key is used to return to the previous menu

Note - While using a USB keyboard and VGA display is the preferred method for setting up VX Duo, you can also access the unit by directly connecting it to a computer using a network cable and a web browser as described in the Access via Default IP Address section.

Access via Default IP Address

In lieu of using a USB keyboard and VGA display, VX Duo can also be configured by connecting a computer and using the web-based GUI.

Ensure that your computer's network interface is configured to use the same IP address class and subnet as the AoIP network interface (LAN2). For instance:

  • IP Address: 192.168.2.10

  • Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

  • **Gateway and DNS: (**Blank)

Note - The default AoIP network interface (NET 2) IP address is 192.168.2.100/24. The default WAN network interface (NET 1) IP address is 10.10.2.100/24.

Connect the computer to the AoIP network interface using either a straight-through or crossover network cable.

Using any web browser, navigate to http://192.168.2.100. At the login prompt, enter "user" as the User Name, leave the Password field blank, then click the Submit button.

Continuing the Configuration Process

At this point, the initial hardware configuration is complete and the USB keyboard and VGA display can be disconnected. All further configuration will be carried out through the web GUI.

On a computer connected to the same network as VX Duo, enter the VX Duo's IP address in the URL field of any web browser.

Note - When connecting remotely through the AoIP interface (NET 2), simply entering the unit's IP address will be sufficient as this connection uses port 80 by default.

When using the WAN interface (NET 1), which uses port 8080, it will be necessary to specify the port after the IP address. For example, http://10.10.2.100:8080 (replacing the default IP address with the address specified in the WAN interface).

At the login prompt, enter "user"  as the User Name, leave the Password field blank, then click the Submit button.

Please refer to the user manual for additional information.
