The front panel of each hybrid has a column of push-button switches to the right of the display. From top to bottom:
The front panel Line Status Display indicates the state of the phone line in graphical form using an LED matrix. Icons displayed in normal operating mode include:
If the Line Status display indicates “Line Not Detected” after power-up, the telephone line is not connected to the LINE jack on the back panel, or line voltage is not detected. Check your wiring and verify that a dial tone is present on the line.
Note - This function is not compatible with ground start lines or trunks as these do not have loop current or voltage present until the line has been grounded momentarily or is ringing.
Each hybrid has its own Send (SND) and Receive (RCV) meters to simultaneously display the studio input audio level as well as the output level of the caller. Beyond showing levels, the meters are also useful for troubleshooting mix-minus and other audio issues.
Set the input level pot so that 0dBu on your console causes the Hx to display a yellow bar on the SND bar graph. Note that the SND (input) meter displays audio before any processing.
The RCV (output) meter indicates audio levels after all processing and EQ. A yellow bar corresponds to +4dbu at the audio output. The nominal output level is fixed at +4dbu.
Each hybrid also has a pair of EQ meters which show the amount of gain adjustment applied to the incoming caller audio in LO and HI frequency bands. When the DDEQ feature is disabled via the Back Panel DIP switch settings, nothing will appear on the EQ bar graphs.
You may use a telephone set to either dial an outgoing call or to talk with an incoming caller before they are switched to the hybrid.
When a call is ringing in, the line status icon will display expanding concentric squares (see Line Status Display above).
You may use the telephone set to answer and speak with the caller or push the "Hybrid ON" button to answer it directly on the hybrid (see Front Panel Buttons above). This button can also be used to move the call from the telephone to the hybrid, which disconnects the telephone set.
When a call is taken on the hybrid, a brief mute/adapt period provides an opportunity for the system to adapt to the line before the call goes on the air. The caller will hear a "noise burst" to alert them that they are on the air, but the audience will not as the output is muted during this time. The hybrid continuously adapts to telephone line characteristics throughout the call.
To return the call to the handset and disconnect it from the hybrid, press the Hybrid OFF button, then hang up the phone to end the call.
When a call is active on the hybrid, pressing the Caller ON-HOLD button mutes the receive audio but keeps the call active on the hybrid. The caller hears send audio while waiting on hold. If the caller hangs up or is disconnected for any reason, the hybrid will disconnect.
Pressing the Hybrid ON button when a caller is on hold restores caller audio. The caller will hear an abbreviated version of the adapt noise burst, allowing the hold function to quickly pre-adapt to the telephone line.
